Grand Prix White. Black leather. In 1986 Porsche started the option for a new 911 to have Sport Equipment ‘SE’ or the full fat Super Sport Equipment ‘SSE’ (option code M491). The SSE was based on the legendary Turbo or 930 but with the arguably superior 3.2 non turbo engine. The SSE came equipped with the Turbo suspension, Turbo brakes, bigger wheels and the outrageous wide body and rear spoiler. If you were a 1980’s ‘Yuppie’ then a wide body 911 was the only car to be seen in, GTi man just had to look on in envy! If you try and list the most iconic sports cars in history you would probably come up with the E Type, Miura, F40, MGB but an 80’s wide body 911 will always be top of the pile. This vehicle was supplied new by John Lamb, the official Porsche dealer in Chesterfield, we first owned it in the summer of 1993 at 39,600 miles and sold it to a customer in Jersey, it had a very quiet life for about 23 years in the Channel islands then returned to England. We once again became custodians last year, by this time it was due a freshen up, we rebuilt the engine and gear box, fitted a new clutch and flywheel and restored the body. It is now as fresh as when we supplied it 27 years ago… possibly even a little better! Only 226 of the SSE model coupes were built for the UK for the build run from 1986 and 1989, a total of only 1395 LHD and RHD for the whole world. All this adds up to making this vehicle a truly collectible classic, but better than that a classic you can drive and enjoy without the fear of massive running costs.
